GGM’s 2017 GOODWILL MESSAGE

Dear Colleagues,

It gives me great pleasure to welcome you to the New Year, 2017. I am grateful to Almighty God for seeing us through 2016 and granting us the grace to see another year.

I would like to thank you all for your support and commitment to duty, despite the challenges experienced from the decline in crude oil price and incessant pipeline vandalism that has had a negative impact on the Nation’s aspiration to increase production to 3.0MMbbl/d, we were able to deliver a positive net revenue for the Nation. These trying times call for us to work smarter in the new year to ensure that we explore opportunities for growth and maintain profitability in our operations.

Last year, the downward trend in crude oil price persisted until the second half of 2016, where we saw a slight increase between US$45/bbl and US$50/bbl. This slight increase complemented the gradual recovery on production from an average low of 1.474MMbbl/d in August to a November average of 1.838MMbbl/d. Nevertheless, we must continue to strive to promote lower cost operations and seek further cost optimization through continued renegotiation of existing and upcoming contracts.

Notwithstanding the challenging business environment, the Production Sharing Contract (PSC) recorded an increase in reserves, with a significant discovery by ESSO in deep offshore Nigeria and the commencement of the early installation campaign for the Egina project, which is geared at delivering an expected production of 200,000bopd in the first quarter of 2018.

Several gas projects were also commissioned in 2016; the Northern Option Pipeline (NOPL) and Otumara Gas plant, aimed at increasing supply to the Domestic Gas market. We have also executed several Gas Sales Aggregation Agreements (GSAA) and Gas Sales Purchase Agreements (GSPA) and would continue to mature further gas opportunities in order to close the revenue gap created by the decline in crude oil price.

A major milestone in the Joint Venture Operations in 2016 was the conclusion of negotiations for the resolution of Cash Call Arrears and the approval of the Federal Executive Council (FEC) for NNPC to exit the cash call funding arrangement effective 2017. I must applaud you all for your meritorious hard work and commitment to achieving an aligned 2017 budget with both JV Partners and PSC Contractors by Q4, 2016. This is commendable, and through your sustained efforts and support, we should be able to carry this forward in 2017.

In addition to the aforementioned achievements, NAPIMS also celebrated the 10th Anniversary of NipeX, successful decommissioning of SRM 4.0 and migration to SAP SRM 7.0 and the inauguration of NAPIMS Project Sanctioning and Approval Process (PSAP).

As we progress into 2017, we need to be unrelenting in our efforts to achieve the following:

  • Cost Optimization
  • Effective Portfolio Management
  • Reduction in Contracting Cycle to a Maximum of Six (6) Months.
  • Efficient Turnaround on Documents.
  • Confidentiality with the Information entrusted to us.
  • Support for the Implementation of the 12 Business Focus Areas (BUFA)

I would like to express my appreciation to the IT Team, who have worked tirelessly on the NAPIMS IT Infrastructure Revamp Program. This project which commenced in 2016 is currently at about 60% completion and would be concluded in 2017. The patience and understanding of staff during this process has also been commendable.

Let me also use this opportunity to appreciate and thank the NAPIMS’ branch leadership of NUPENG and PENGASSAN, for the industrial harmony over the past year and we look forward to their continued support to Management in our efforts to provide a favourable working environment for staff.

As we live in very challenging times, I urge you to continue to take your health, personal safety and security seriously. Please maintain a low profile, avoid travelling at night, don’t drink and drive and above all be alert at all times.

Finally, I would like to commiserate with the families and friends of our colleagues and loved ones who lost their lives in the year 2016. May their gentle souls find eternal rest in the Lord, Amen.

Once again, happy new year. God bless you and thank you.
